Artist of the Month: Joleen Reiland-Lorenz
At Unison Bank, we’re proud to celebrate the creative individuals who help shape and inspire our community. This month, we’re excited to feature Joleen Reiland-Lorenz, the talented artist and owner behind Dakota Ocean Creations.
By day, Joleen works as a mechanical engineer at Duratech Industries, bringing precision and structure to her profession. By night, she channels that same dedication into her passion for art—creating pieces that are both expressive and deeply personal.
Joleen’s background is as impressive as it is unique. With a degree in Architectural/Structural Design and Mechanical Engineering, she blends technical expertise with artistic vision. Her commitment to the arts extends far beyond her own work. She serves as an art instructor at The Arts Center and has spent six years on the Jamestown Fine Arts Association (JFAA) Board of Directors, including roles as Secretary and Vice President. She also continues to support the community as a member of the construction committee for the Arts Center’s recent expansion.
Her artistic reach can be seen throughout the community. Joleen has created and installed three award-winning mosaic benches at Hansen Arts Park—public works that showcase her creativity and dedication to accessible art.
Joleen works across a wide range of mediums, including acrylics, gouache, charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, graphite, and glass-on-glass mosaics. Her versatility allows her to bring a variety of ideas to life, from vibrant abstract pieces to detailed commissioned works. Recently, she has been especially passionate about creating custom animal and pet portraits, helping clients capture meaningful moments and memories.
Whether she’s designing large-scale public installations or creating one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces, Joleen’s work reflects her passion for both art and community.
