Spirit scholarship recipients announced for 2025

Three graduating high school seniors throughout the region have been selected as the $1,000 Spirit Scholarship recipients for the 2024-25 academic year. Recipients were selected from the service areas for each of Unison Bank’s and Uinsurance’s branch locations. This year’s recipients were Matthew Motschenbacher, Macy Monson and Annabelle Huber.

“I’m extremely grateful to be a recipient of this scholarship,” stated Motschenbacher. “It is going to help reach my goal of graduating college with as little debt as possible, which I am striving for to not be burdened by loan payments when I’m seeking a job and finding the field that I can make the most positive difference in after graduation.”

Jamestown native and PEAK Academy Homeschool senior, Matthew Motschenbacher, was selected as one of the bank’s scholarship recipients. Motschenbacher plans to attend the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D., to pursue Business with a minor in Leadership.

Eligible applicants included Gilbert, Ariz., Jamestown, N.D., Linton, N.D., Wishek, N.D., and surrounding area high school graduating seniors who are, or whose parent(s) or guardian(s) are customers of Unison Bank or Uinsurance Agency, LLC., and planning to attend a college, university, vocational or technical post-secondary school. Each applicant’s scholarship, letter of recommendation and transcript were graded by the Scholarship Committee.

“I would like to thank Unison Bank for this opportunity to further my education. I really appreciate the support,” said recipient, Macy Monson.

Monson, a senior at Ashley High School, was selected as a recipient of the 2024-25 Spirit Scholarship. With the $1,000 scholarship, Monson plans to attend Mayville State University in Mayville, N.D., to pursue a career in agriculture and finance with plans to work in a rural community.

The third scholarship recipient selected was Annabelle Huber, a senior at Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock High School.

“I’m incredibly grateful to receive this scholarship. It will help me focus on learning and less on financial stress, allowing me to prepare for a career in elementary education fully,” said Huber. “This scholarship brings me one step closer to making a difference in students’ lives.”

Huber plans to attend Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., in the fall to study elementary education with hopes of minoring in special education to allow her to better support children with learning needs.

Unison Bank Vice President of Marketing, Ally Knudtson, shared, “We thank all the students who have applied for our scholarship. Each year our scholarship committee reviews the applications, and we are continually impressed with the applicants and their involvement in their local communities.”

Unison Bank and Uinsurance are committed to the community and recognize that the education of youth is vital to it. They award $1,000 Spirit Scholarships to students who have demonstrated community spirit, the ability to work in ‘unison’ with others, and a commitment to continue their education.
