Gunderson named Unison Bank Artist of the Month

North Dakota native, Troy Gunderson, was selected as local financial institution, Unison Bank’s, featured artist for March 2021.

Unison Bank’s March 2021 Artist of the Month, Troy Gunderson, stands beside his photographs displayed in the bank’s lobby in Jamestown, N.D.

Each month, Unison Bank features local artists, photographers, quilters and creators and their products or services. Since 2013, they have featured 86 artisans.

March’s featured artist, Gunderson, has displayed a variety of landscape portraits within the lobby of Unison Bank in Jamestown, N.D.

“I’ve always had a great reverence for God and His creative power, but it was not until I moved to Jamestown that I began to explore photography,” said Gunderson. “Photography has become a stress reliever for me. The images I create provide me with a sense of accomplishment, especially being able to share the beauty with others.”

Originally from Minot, N.D., Gunderson and his wife, Sheri, moved to Jamestown in 1997.

Gunderson is a self-taught photographer who specializes in landscape photography. He has a passion for capturing the variety of seasons and wide-open skies that North Dakota offers. Gunderson’s passion for photography and natural instinct for guiding others has allowed him to teach photography classes through the Jamestown Arts Center since 2012.

“I lean heavily into low-light photography and strive for unusual images that often require long exposures,” said Gunderson in regard to the late and early hours in the day that he photographs. Often, Gunderson may be found stomping through ditches of snow for the right angle or chasing rain clouds for the promise of a rainbow.

In addition to his photography business, Dakota Focus Photography, Gunderson also works on upholstery projects in his free time when he isn’t in the office as the James Valley Youth for Christ Executive Director.

“As a community bank, we’re honored to allow local artists, like Troy Gunderson, the opportunity to showcase their unique talents,” said Unison Bank President & CEO, Kelly Rachel. “We invite the community to stop by our lobby and see Troy’s artwork.”

Unison Bank’s lobby is open on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Tuesdays through Fridays, the lobby is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Additional pieces from Gunderson’s portfolio are on display at Sapphire Gallery, located at 109 1st Street W in Jamestown, N.D. To learn more about how to purchase a photograph or about the Unison Bank Artist of the Month program, please contact Unison Bank at (701) 253-5600
